Going Green

February 1st, 2012 crftyjh 1 comment

It’s time to start thinking about spring and St. Patrick’s Day.  Make green cards now and have them ready to mail next month.  Here are 3 I made to sell at Brushstrokes and Blessings at the West Shore Farmers Market.  My vintage print card features a Martha Stewart border punch, EK Corner Adorner, a Stamp Express vintage print, Stamp Express quality cardstock and Colorbok designer paper.  This card would also be good for a March birthday.

Erin go braugh uses a Stamp Barn stamp, Colorbok paper and a Martha Stewart punch.  The Kiss me card has Spellbinders label, May Arts ribbon, BoBunny designer paper that is hand stitched and Copic markers accented with Stickles for the gold.

Layering is the technique we want to stress here.  One customer asked me how to keep her cards from looking like a kid’s coloring book.  I feel that layering is the answer.  Use patterned paper, stamps punches, ribbons, cardstock and embellishments to promote an adult look.  Too much is never enough!  You can purchase supplies for your green cards at

How does your garden grow?

April 19th, 2011 crftyjh No comments

Ken has been preparing the soil, buying the seeds and planting the onions. It’s that time of year. ” Finn Whistling While He Works” reminds me of how much Ken enjoys doing the gardening. First I made a copy of a seed packet. Sprayed it with water and crumpled it up for the background. When it was dry, I smoothed it out and touched the high ridges with a brown ink pad. I glued this to the blue layer and then to the green card. Finn (Stampavie) was colored with Copic markers and then torn out. The edges were distressed with the same brown ink pad. The image was glued on top and a flower added for embellishment. What a great card for Father’s Day or a guy’s birthday this season. And the good news is that you can purchase the stamp, ink and markers now at our on-line store. If you want a gal gardening try” Elodie in Her Garden” using the same technique. Stampavie Easter

March 30th, 2011 crftyjh 1 comment

These new Stampavie stamps are so CUTE!  The rabbit with the pencil (Just to Say) could be used any time of year with any message.  I used a spring saying from Hero Arts.  The cardstock is Stamp Express quality cardstock, the designer paper is BoBunny.  The punch is Martha Stewart.  All colors are Copic Markers.  Several folks have asked that I publish the colors I use.  So, beneath each card I have listed the Copic colors.  But, know that you could use any 2 shades of a color family that you happen to own.  If you would like more colors, check out our selection at our on-line store.

The Easter chick is cut out with a labels 1 Nestabilities die.  Again the cardstock is Stamp Express quality cardstock, designer paper is BoBunny, markers are Copic, flowers are Prima, and the words are from Judikins.  What fun these were to make.  Order your Stampavie stamps now from our store to be ready for the Easter season.

SDV Memories

We had such a good time at the Gettysburg Scrappers Dream Vacation event that I want to share some of it with you.  Our booth featured make-it/take-its with Margaret keeping it lively.  The Scor-pal and Copic Markers seemed to be a big hit.  Here are some photos of the gals working on the projects.

We also introduced two new stamp companies; Just-Rite and Stampavie.  Two of the 12″x12″ pages we had on display are below.  All images were colored with Copic markers.  Bo-Bunny’s double sided paper got a lot of raves as did the Scor-tape.  These products are now selling on our web store with the exception of the Bo-Bunny paper. That will be coming soon!

If you have never attended an SDV, consider the upcoming one in August at Hagerstown, MD.  We’ll be there! If you’re interested go to their website at www.eventpathunlimited.com/events/

omg!  The Stampavie order just came and I couldn’t wait to stamp their new stamps.  Here are two that I put on our Stamp Express fence cards.  How cute!  Both are stamped with Memento inks and colored with Copic Markers.  The words and flower stamps are from Hero Arts.  When you order the fence cards we include the diecut grass strips for the front of the fence.  Think of all the possibilities.  You could stamp flowers on the fence, or a vine.  You could change the theme for any season of the year.  At Christmas, hang a wreath on the fence.  For Halloween, stack up some pumpkins.  What FUN!!!  Fence cards, Copic Markers, Memento pads, Copic cardstock, and Stampavie stamps are available in our on-line store.  Order soon.  These won’t last long. Order fence cards by going to the diecuts category in the on-line store.

It Might as Well be Spring

Since the clocks “spring” ahead this weekend for daylight savings time, I got into a “spring” mood.  Here are two 8″x8″ scrapbook pages I designed using JustRite  stamps and Copic markers.  JustRite has several flower stamps that are beautiful.  You can purchase them at our on-line store along with the holders.  The great thing is that you can change the borders or use without a border for a different look.  We recommend using the Copic paper and Memento ink pads for the stamping part of the projects.  These are also available at our on-line store.  Only 4 days till spring!

Do I Smell Jellybeans?

March 1st, 2011 crftyjh 3 comments

These cards with the March Housemouse of the month came out so cute, I don’t know which one I like best!  The first one uses 2 textures of embossing folders.  On Cor’dinations cardstock, when you lightly sand the image it stands out in a lighter color.  You can order this cardstock at our on-line store.  The next card features a unique diagonal layer and a banner with the words.  And the third selection has a woven paper background and ribbon accent.  If you choose to order the stamps and the kits for making all 3 projects, it is just $20.  Go to our on-line store now.  These make adorable Easter cards, spring birthday cards and thinking of you notes.  We colored ours with Copic markers, but you could use watercolor pencils and a blender pen or Prismacolor pencils, gamisol and a blending stump.  We included Copic cardstock in our kits.  You can also order extra sheets at our store.  Have to go now and get a yummy jellybean snack!

Copic for Beginners

February 23rd, 2011 crftyjh No comments

Copic Markers are alcohol ink markers that can be refilled.  They blend easily, and make your work look professional.

Here are some tips for starting out with Copic markers:

1.  Work on a piece of cardboard or chipboard.  Colors tend to bleed through, and you need something absorbent underneath your work.  If you use a craft sheet or tabletop, the colors will puddle and pop up in places where you don’t want them.

2.  Stamp your image with Memento ink.  Ancient Page needs to be dried with a heat gun.  Staz-on is alcohol based and will bleed when you color.

3.  Use the special Copic cardstock for best results.  We tried many various papers and found this to be the best.  Both cardstock and inks are available at our website store.

4.  Use 2 or 3 colors from the same color family.  The tendency is to start too dark.  You need light colors for a base, and then the darker ones for shading.

5.  The blender pen is not for blending.  It actually is an eraser.  Use it to take color out for highlights and to correct small mistakes.

6.  After stamping the image, start with the lightest color.  Fill in the outline with small circles.  Then shade with the next darker color.  Sometimes the stamped image will have tiny dots where the shading should be.  If not, decide for yourself where the image should be darker.  Then go back over the entire image with your first color to blend.  Do not press hard.  Just let the pen glide over your work.  Notice that there is no pilling of the paper when you go over it (if you used the recommended paper).

7.  Now you can add the next darker color and then again go over the entire image with the lightest.  This is the easiest way to shade and blend for the beginner.  We will add other methods later when you have practiced this.

Here is a tutorial on shading by this method:

Step 1: Stamp with Tuxedo Black Memento ink

Step 2: Color in tiny circles with light colors. We used G12 sea green, RV10 pale pink, and Y02 canary Yellow.

Step 3: Shade with darker colors. We used G17 nile green, RV14 begonia pink, and cadmium yellow.

Step 4: Go over with lighter colors again to blend colors together.

Step 5: Cut out and layer. We used Spellbinders Nestabilities Circles (plain for the image and scalloped for the pink mat. Add to card as is shown here or put it on a project of your choice.

Everything is Just Rite

March 21st, 2010 crftyjh No comments

My mother is celebrating her 94th birthday next week.  I couldn’t resist buying the new flower set from JustRite stamps to make her card.  These stamps are so versatile.  You purchase a stamper (wooden holder), and then fit in any stamp border and any center of that size into the stamper.  It allows you to make a combination of many different designs so that it looks like you have a plethora of stamps.  JustRite has several different sizes too, so you can collect anything from monograms to labels for your homemade goodies in addition to items for cards and scrapbooks.  I love them!
